CREDITS
Below are recipes from a cook book published in Garvin County, Oklahoma when Harley was just a kid. The photo is Harley's father and grandmother (2 in the center).
CUSTARD PIE
4 eggs, slightly beaten 2 1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar 1 t. vanilla
1/2 t. salt
Beat eggs slightly and add sugar and salt. Add milk and vanilla. Pour into unbaked pie shell which has been chilled in refrigerator a few minutes. Sprinkle generously with nutmeg. Bake in oven 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and complete baking untill filling is set.
BUTTERMILK PIE
1 c. fresh buttermilk 5 T. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter
2 eggs 1/2 t. salt
1 t. lemon extract
Place milk over low flame and add butter. Mix sugar, flour and salt, When milk is hot add dry ingredients and cook until thick. Add egg yolks just before mixture is thick enough. Add extract after removing from stove. Save egg whites for meringue.
FUDGE PUDDING
1/2 c. flour 1/2 c. baking powder
3/4 c. sugar 2 t. butter
1 1/2 t. cocoa 1/2 c. sweet milk
pinch of salt 1 t. vanilla
1/2 c. pecans, chopped
Mix in order given and pour into pudding pan. Then mix 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1/2 c. white sugar, 2 T. cocoa, 1 c. hot water, 1 t. vanilla and pour mixture over batter. Bake at 350 degrees about 45 minutes. Batter comes to top during baking and has a thick rich sauce underneath to be spooned over the top when served.
